"Inhale. Exhale. Inhale."-Graffiti in Gas Street Basin, Mailbox Birminghamn, UK
Upon my arrival in Birmingham in May 2022, I was unsure what to expect as Birmingham is known to be an industrial city. My exploration began with a search for Yoga Studios, and I discovered the growing popularity of Hot Yoga in the city. Here I found YogaHaven in the charming Jewelry Quarter providing many Hot Yoga classes. However, since I like to teach diverse Yoga styles myself and always look for variety in terms of style and time, I am happy to call Yoga Sweat close to the Mailbox my favorite Yoga studio in Birmingham.
I am quite happy that I get to teach Yoga in Birmingham’s vibrant business districts Brindley Place and City Center during lunchtime. Through YinYan CIC Wellbeing employees at 11 Brindley Place and Fountain Court have the opportunity for a rejuvenating and grounding lunch break.
English Cuisine
Although England is not known for its cuisine I quickly realized that Birmingham being a Melting Pot offers a variety of culinary experiences. One of my favorite cafes is Saint Kitchen with its lovely service, very tasty bagels, and homemade Chai. Nestled in St. Paul's Square, my favorite spot in Birmingham epitomizes the charm of the Jewelry Quarter with its industrial backdrop and preserved allure.
What I've grown to appreciate even more is Cream Tea, and although it's not readily available in the city, Boston Tea Party is an excellent spot to savor freshly baked, big scones paired with fragrant Earl Grey tea.

Another unexpected culinary go-to for me is the Full English Breakfast (obviously the vegetarian version) which offers a healthier and more nutritious start to the day than you would think.
Beans - Protein Powerhouses: First up, beans. These little legumes are your morning heroes, delivering the necessary protein kick to jumpstart your day. Protein, the building block of muscles and tissues, ensures you stay energized and ready to conquer the day.
Mushrooms - A Multivitamin Marvel: Next on the plate are mushrooms, not just adding flavor but also contributing protein, essential fats, iron, and potassium. Fungi isn't just a culinary delight; it's a nutrient-packed addition to your breakfast.
Tomatoes - A Vitamin Boost: Tomatoes, whether baked, grilled, or sliced fresh, bring a burst of flavor and a cocktail of nutrients. Rich in Vitamin C and A, potassium, sodium, and calcium, they contribute to immune health, vision, and bone strength.
Eggs - The Protein Pinnacle: Eggs, a staple in this breakfast ensemble, bring a protein-packed punch along with essential nutrients like fat, cholesterol (yes, there's good cholesterol too), Vitamin D, Vitamin B-6, iron, calcium, and sodium. A true nutritional powerhouse on your plate!
The Green Touch with Kale or Spinach: While not always a mainstay, a touch of green with kale or spinach adds a nutrient-dense layer. These leafy greens bring a spectrum of vitamins and minerals, elevating your breakfast to a new level of healthfulness.
Reduced Bread Intake: Unlike breakfasts in some other countries drowning in bread, the English breakfast typically keeps the carb count in check. This moderation ensures a well-balanced meal that won't leave you feeling weighed down.
Entertainment
The city's size strikes the perfect balance, offering numerous cultural activities while maintaining the accessibility of canal walks and footpaths.
Contrary to misconceptions, Birmingham, as encapsulated by the motto "Be Bold, Be Birmingham" by the City Council, is a celebration, an attitude, an aspiration, and a state of mind. It embodies civic pride, offering a purposeful and underrated cityscape. Birmingham's blend of history, culinary delights, and cultural events makes it a vibrant and underestimated gem.
So I am quite happy I moved here and got to know a city I probably would not have visited as a tourist.
